About me
Hi there!
Blue Sky thinking covers many topics around Web 2.0, Enterprise 2.0, management consulting and IT strategy. Once in a while, there will be general rant here and there too. =)
I am a senior consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers advisory and currently also a part time PhD candidate at the University of Melbourne focusing specifically on Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0 concepts. My interest in Web 2.0 started in mid 2007 and have always been interested in bringing out the best in humans and technology and how it can work its magic in the organisational context. I have published an Enterprise 2.0 research paper so far and have spoken at Universities and conferences on the same topic.

I am planning to do my Master Thesis in how to best use Collaborative tools at work and reap benefit from them. The team with which I will be working doesn’t have any such tools currently . However it is possible that they have some thing in the company but its not much used. So my work will be to analyze the tools available inside & also outside the company . Finally help them choose the right tool for collaboartion and implement this in a small team. I wanted help with the reference materials , books on this topic. I have just started and need to sell this thesis idea to my school as well as the company.
The questions i have in mind are:
What does collaboration really mean?
Why collaboration is necessary
what are the advantages
Are there any disadvantages and if any what are those?
Does it help in solving Business Problems?
Thank you in advance for your time & help.

Hi Shweta,
Its probably really hard to answer your questions, collaboration is not a one size fits all model. Its highly dependent on the team, environment, culture and technology that you implement. I think its really part of your studies to identify the issues and answers within your environment your company is operating in. I can help you with some references if you would like them and if you have any specific questions feel free to pop me a mail.
Cheers,
Sean

Hi Sean,
Thank you for the reply. My next task is to study the team environment but before all this I wanted to read some literature and get basic ideas about collaboration. I think collaboration has always been part of work but the technological advances today has made it very easy to collaborate. So just wanted to read few good books on what has been written on collaboration in the last 40-50 years. I will drop you an email when i start working with the team and have specific questions. Meanwhile if you could suggest me some good reading I will get started on it.
Best Regards,
Shweta
